What will you need to work in Taiwan?

Hualien photoGET A TRAVEL VISA
You will need to have a valid passport. Make sure it will not expire during your time visiting in Taiwan. Before you travel to Taiwan, you will need to acquire a Visitor Visa from the nearest Taiwanese consulate. You can apply for a 6-month Visitor Visa, but unless you cannot show a valid reason why you would be in Taiwan for 6-months, they will not likely issue one to you. Two-month Visitor Visas are what are routinely issued. Once you are in Taiwan and you get a job, your employer will help you to change your Visitor Visa to a Resident Visa. Resident Visa holders are required to apply for a Alien Resident Certificate within 15 days of their arrival or within changing their status to Alien Resident.

With a two-month or six-month visa, you will be able to take a short hop to Hong Kong to renew your visa for another period. When you're ready to do this, take your passport photos the day before. Take the earliest flight possible, and go to the Visa office, which is 45 minutes from the airport via airport train and taxi.

Temple photoEDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
Education is very important to the Taiwanese. That is why they place a premium on the education of their children, and thus the decent pay rates for teaching jobs. Most teaching jobs will require a minimum of a 4-year Bachelor's Degree with a teaching certificate a definite bonus. Other jobs will have other requirements. But don't expect to find too many job opportunities without a 4-year degree.

RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations for the following diseases are not required, but are highly recommended for travel In Taiwan: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Enchephalitis, Typhoid.

REQUIREMENTS OF EMPLOYERS
Employers who wish to hire foreign nationals to come and work in Taiwan are required to first apply with the Council of Labor Affairs to obtain a work permit for the foreign nationals they wish to hire. A work permit application form must be submitted in Chinese and requires recent passport photos of the person and supporting documentation such as photocopies of the candidate's CV, passport (picture page), employment contract, health certificate from a pre-approved hospital, proof of education, and proof of previous work experience. Please note that certified Chinese translations are usually required for all foreign-language documents. The work permit application review process takes approximately two weeks. Once the application is approved, the work permit -- a formal government-issued letter of approval -- is sent by registered mail to the employer. The letter, which serves as proof of permission for the prospective employee to undertake employment in Taiwan, is required for the resident visa application.
